These gloves will look great while keeping your hands warm all winter. You can knit these gloves so the colours go randomly or choose to place the colours as I have. I choose that each finger would be a different colour and the thumb is a mix of colour. Have fun and play with the yarn.
Difficulty Level: intermediate
3mm double pointed needles
Opal Saphir – DK weight (80% wool, 20% nylon) 250m/100gr 1- 100 gr ball Shown in colour#1200
Sizes: The pattern is written in 3 sizes S(M,L) and the finger lengths can be adjusted for fit. Fit hand circumference 18, ( 19, 20.5)cm - 7 (7 ½ / 8) “
Gauge: 6 st. / inch on 3mm needles
Pattern: Cuff – cast on 42 (44, 48) st. arrange these stitches on the double pointed needles and join the round being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a marker at beginning of the round. Knit in ribbing K1, P1 for 6.5 – 7.5 cm - 2 1/2 – 3 “
Hand: Change to st.st. (knit every round) increase 1 st. at the end of the next round 43( 45, 49) st. on needles
Shape Thumb Gusset: Knit across 21 (22, 24) st, place a marker, M1, (make a stitch by knitting into the front and the back of the next stitch) Knit 1, M1, place a marker. Knit to the end of the round. Knit 2 rounds
Inc 2 st. in this manner inside the markers every 3rd round until you have 13, (15, 17) st. between the markers. Knit 2 rounds
On the next round place the thumb gusset sts. on a length of yarn to hold them and remove your stitch markers. Knit to the end of the round and cast on 1 st over the thumb space. Continue knitting in the round until the glove measures 8.5 ( 9, 9.5) cm - 3 ¼, ( 3 ½, 3 ¾ )” above the ribbing.
Little finger: Work across 6 st. and place the following 32 (34, 38) st. on a holder to be worked later. Cast on 1 st. over the gap, Join the yarn (If you want each finger a different colour join the colour you want.) knit to the end. Knit these 12 sts. in the round for your little finger until 4.5 ( 5, 5.5) cm – 1 ¾, ( 2, 2 ¼ )” . On the last round knit 2 together all around, break yarn and thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight.
Upper Hand: Place the held stitches on the needles, rejoin the yarn at the gap made by little finger pick up and knit 2 stitches. Total sts. 34 (36,40). Knit for 3 rounds.
Ring Finger: place first and last 6 (6, 7) st on dp needles, place the rest of the stitches on a holder to be used later. Join yarn, in colour of choice. Cast on 1 sts over the gap and knit these 13 sts. until 5.5 ( 6.5, 7)cm – 2 ¼, (2 ½, 2 ¾)” Shape top and finish as for little finger.
Middle Finger: Take the first and last 5(5,6) sts. off the holder, Join yarn, in colour of choice, pick up and knit 2 sts. along the edge of the ring finger and cast on 1 (2, 1) st. over the gap 13, (14, 15) st on needles. knit these sts. until 6.5 (7,7.5)cm – 2 ½ (2 ¾ , 3)” Shape top and finish as for little finger.
Index Finger: place remaining sts. on needles. Join yarn, in colour of choice, pick up and knit 2 on the edge of middle finger. 12( 14,14) sts. on needle, Knit until5.5 ( 6.5, 7)cm – 2 ¼, (2 ½, 2 ¾)” Shape top and finish as for little finger.
Thumb: place the gusset stitches on the needles, Join yarn, in colour of choice, pick up and knit 1 st. on the edge between thumb and hand, 14, (16, 18) sts. on needles. Knit until 3.8(4.5,5)cm – 1 ½ (1 ¾, 2)” finish top same as little finger.
Finishing: Weave in the ends. Close the gaps between the fingers and at the base of the thumb.
